Until recently many UK homeowners were unaware of the major benefits of selecting a garage door of this design however in recent years the market has gotten more switched on to the excellent features and great value for money they represent.
What are the main benefits of a sectional door?
In comparison to a traditional garage doors that swing out as they operate the vertical lift design of a sectional door means that the maximum space on the driveway can be used as the door simply rises and falls in a vertical motion (the same as a garage roller door).
Unlike a traditional up & over or side hinged design that requires a frame to be installed into a sectional garage door is designed to fit behind the structural opening as it can be fixed directly to the brickwork. As such when fitted in this manner it is possible to maintain the maximum width of the opening ensuring parking for the wider vehicle is easier and more convenient.
What if they need to be fitted between the opening?
Due to the construction of individual garages it may not always possible to fit a sectional garage door behind the brickwork (for example if there are no returns or the depth of the pillars would lead to a unacceptable loss of length inside the building).
In these instances the maximum opening width and height will not be maintained as you will need to fit a frame for the tracks to fix onto or specify a “between the reveal” fixing kit which has covers to conceal the vertical tracks thus providing a neat and professional finish.
In what instances might a sectional garage door not be the best option?
Sectional garage doors are suitable for 99% of garages however in instances where there are low beams protruding into the garage or where a door opens into the garage along the sidewall it may not be the best choice for DIY installation as you can run the risk of the tracks fowling the beam or door.
To ensure this does not happen read through the installation space requirements for each design prior to placing an order or contact us today for help or advice.
Is one manufacturers sectional garage door better than another?
In terms of quality of construction, reliability and ease of operation there is very little difference between manufacturers. The main differences are the size, design, colour and accessory options that are available. For example Gliderol offer a cost effective single skin sectional door however offer limited colours. Seceuroglide in comparison only offer Insulated Sectional Door but have a much wider range of colours and offer a made to measure service as standard making them ideal for any non standard width or height of opening.
Manufactured in the UK in a choice of single skin and insulated designs Gliderol sectional doors are great value for money. Despite this the produce a great range of insulated sectional garage doors in a number of designs such as ribbed, centre ribbed, top rib, unribbed and Georgian cassette.
