There will also be cheese pairing courtesy of our friends, Teddington Cheese Co. David Hargreaves, of Louis Latour, importers of Gosset and Frapin, will be on hand to provide background and expert opinion on all the wines tasted on the night.
GOSSET is the oldest wine house in Champagne. Founded by Pierre Gosset in 1584, who, at that time, made mostly red wines. In the 18th century Gosset joined their neighbours and began to make sparkling wines. It was at this time that the house adopted the unique antique flask-shaped bottle that is still used today.
Grapes come mainly from the premier and grand cru vineyards surrounding Epernay and the winemaking style is characterised by minimal intervention, extended ageing and no malolactic fermentation. Since 1993 Gosset has been owned by the Renaud Cointreau family.
FRAPIN is responsible for the whole production process of its Cognacs. It possesses its own vines, one of the largest estates in Grande Champagne, its own distillery and its own ageing cellars. This gives Frapin the luxury of complete control down to the finest detail of its brands.
Still in original family ownership, the company’s head Jean-Pierre Cointreau is a direct descendant of the founder and can trace his family’s vine growing and distilling history back to 1270.
The whole property lies in the Grande Champagne area of France which is regarded as Cognac’s best appellation and is highly prized for both the quality and intensity of its spirits and their longevity. The extended ageing that all Frapin’s Cognacs receive sets them apart from the competitors and contributes to the House’s rich, complex and smooth style.
Private Beer Tasting and Masterclasses
We have been running private beer tasting masterclasses since 2005 collaborating with the best beer writers and commentators in the business. The events involve beer and food matching, getting the most out of the flavour of the beer, learning a little of the history, as well as myth busting and trivia. Contact Zeph at Real Ale Ltd on 0208 894 1114 for more information.
